Japanese Demons

Of course there are no Japanese demons here at Oriental Garden, but these are two demons you’d want to watch out for if you ever visit Japan!

Hannya – This demon of Japan preys on lovely women and babies. It has ninja like skills with its ability to trespass into a domicile unnoticed on the chance that there is a sleeping beauty within. The demon then shocks its prey with a shriek that would give Dani Filth a run for his money. While in shock, Mrs. Beautiful’s conscience is taken over by the hannya. She gradually loses her mind and undergoes a physical transformation that leaves her looking worse than your worst nightmare. After that it’s time for her to feast upon someone’s kid. One’s only hope lies in “a Buddhist sutra that renders humans invisible to spirits and demons” (Bane, 164).

Karasu Tengu – A demon living in the mountains of Japan, this creature is hostile to all who tread within its range. If you see it you will be able to recognize it by its “green face” and “beak, claws and wings of a crow” (Bane, 195), unless it is in human form. If that is the case you may still recognize it by its “ring-tipped staff called a shakujos” (Bane, 195). If you are near the mountains of Japan and some crazy person attacks you, then there is a chance that it is Karasu Tengu who is attacking you. Tengu and NyoTengu are two characters of the video game Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore and Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, respectively, which seem to be inspired by Karasu Tengu.
